We had only around 180 unique icons, but more than 3,000 files had been uploaded over time. Naming was inconsistent, duplicates were everywhere, and there was no single source of truth. It was impossible to scope the work or even know where to begin. The visual style was also inconsistent. With new car-related requests coming in from teams around the world, the existing assets were difficult to scale while maintaining a consistent look and feel. We started with Research &amp; Moodboarding For Uber X, we were looking for an affordable, everyday car. At smaller sizes, details are simplified to maintain clarity and legibility. Motion On the homepage, selected icons come to life through motion. Each illustration adheres to a carefully curated palette of 3-5 colors and is locked to a strict isometric perspective to ensure high design consistency and visual clarity at smaller scales. I continuously tested the illustrations within the product across various sizes to maintain the best visual complexity and legibility. To ensure cultural authenticity, I researched the specific origins and visual details of each food item before illustrating them. Drawing on my experience with motion design, I aimed to create a delightful experience that encourages users to show appreciation for hard-working couriers. Each badge design started with detailed storyboards. Before animating, we went through design reviews to ensure the visuals and storytelling were clearly aligned with the context. These badges are implemented as Lottie animations within the product. This feature acts as a dynamic visual feed, showing users exactly what people in their neighborhood are ordering right now.
